Service Description
This is a brilliant class for experimenting and learning new techniques, combining two lessons in one! TELL ME MORE..... We will start the day learning all about wax carving. You will carve a design into wax, a lovely medium to work with. Once you're happy with your carving you will set this into the sand cylinder creating a void, then you will pour molten silver into the void to form your piece. This can sometimes take a few goes as it can be a tad unpredictable, but with a little practice you can make a beautiful sand casting through this organic technique. You'll then learn how to finish the casting ready to wear. IS THIS CLASS RIGHT FOR ME?.... Although this class is suitable for beginners there are definitely elements of the workshop that are very involved, for example pouring molten metal and cleaning up the casting. Some previous experience would help you with handling the tools and equipment and knowing what's involved, it can be hard on the hands. WHAT SHALL I BRING?.... Please bring some lunch! We will take a short break in the middle of the day to refuel, we will also keep you topped up with refreshments and sweet treats throughout the day. A notebook is a good idea, as well as your glasses if you need them. If you have any old silver you would like to melt down and use, please bring it with you. The metal will be charge separately on the day depending on how much you use, so please bring cash or card for this. THE IMPORTANT BITS...... Please wear long hair tied up, no open toe shoes, no loose sleeves or dangly jewellery. Your safety is our priority! This class runs from 10am-4pm, but if the session is full we may run over. There will be a charge for the silver you use for your castings, priced at £1.50 per gram. A good guideline is approx 7 grams
